Doing the right things and doing them right

Bruno Morgante Head PMO Portfolio Management Transformation Program Lead Project Delivery

"... at the end of the day, your top priority is to deliver your project and get it done.”

However, do you know what you are actually delivering?
What’s the value you are creating for your customers?

I know, you want to deliver faster. But let me ask you this: move faster to get where? When you don't know what's working, what makes you think that more of it will be better?

Project Management is a skill, a choice, a set of tools to be learned, not something we’re born with

Seth Godin

I am frequently being asked when I discovered I wanted to be a Project Manager or a PMO Leader?

When I started my corporate career in 2005, I had a completely wrong impression of what Project Management is and what the role of a Project Manager is.
Keep in mind, I was a young Engineer and at the same time, I was successfully running my own live concerts organisation business. From imagining things and telling stories about how to make them happen. To coordinating unknowable future events to deliver something of value. There was a lot of Project Management around me, in me, but I did not know it (yet).

After a few months in my job, my manager tells me "Bruno, I believe you would be a great Project Manager. You have all the right behaviours and attitudes. I have a perfect opportunity for you." This is how I got my first small project assigned. I started to learn while I was doing, and I realised Project Management was my path and I would not have left it for anything else.

In the following two decades, I have been successfully delivering, managing and executing several projects and programs, from initiation to closure. From small projects with tiny teams and budgets, to multi-million-dollar programs with 100+ project team members.

My journey continued with the opportunity to take the lead of the PMO I was part of and to guide it through its transformation process towards a center of excellence and then into a forward-looking strategic business partner. It was an outstanding team and an amazing ride.

After that, I built, developed, and led a few other PMOs. Every one of them with their flavours and their challenges. Constantly improving our project delivery, simplifying our processes and tools, enabling data driven decisions, connecting our portfolio of projects with the organisation strategy, focusing on outcome and not outputs, and always delivering value to our customers.

I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of it.

I am honoured to be listed in the Top 25 Global Thought Leaders and Influencers on Project Management and in the Top 100 on Change Management by Thinkers360.

And to be nominated in the Top 6 PMO Leaders in Europe by PMO Global Alliance during the 2022 PMO Global Awards.
